The writings of Stefano Corsi, a young scholar who passed away recently, have been collected by friends and colleagues to commemorate him and serve as a research instrument. Corsi studied under Vincenzo Saladino, whose essay introduces the collected works and traces the steps of an all-too-brief intellectual adventure, and he trained in the fields of archaeology and Greek and Roman art history. Keenly interested in antiquity, a passion that clearly emerges in the final projects he launched for the Fototeca Berenson, he expanded his interests as a student, starting with his thesis on the Este collections of the 16th century. His research introduced him to the imitation of antiquity in the Renaissance, a field in which he demonstrated great insight and analytical skills. Corsi’s work with the Casa Buonarroti was fundamental, as he completed the catalogue of the archaeological collection—the room housing it has now been named after him—and conducted in-depth studies on the collecting activities of Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger and the marvellous engravings of the Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae.
