During the millenary of the basilica of San Miniato al Monte (1018-2018), an exhibition that explores the gerosolimitan origins of Florence: it’s upon the city that the basilica stands, echoing the overhead outline of the holy city.

The exhibit is divided into three sections which from different perspectives intend to recreate to the eye of the contemporaries the peculiarities of a biblical identity that nowadays more than whenever else it is our duty to honour. What’s more, the exhibit offers the opportunity to have a dialogue with works only apparently abstract, as on closer view they turn out to be deeply engraved in human history’s heart from its first origins – vivid for their vital and bright colors, capable of fruiting new consciousness, as well as the tree that in the holy texts stands in the middle of the city’s square and which “brings fruit every month”.

The catalogue, edited by Msgr. Timothy Verdon (Director of the Ufficio d’Arte Sacra – Arcidiocesi and of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo di Firenze) not only introduces to the exhibit by Filippo Rossi and Susan Kanaga, but also enumerates the Program and useful information about the Scholarly Conference, the Concert, the Guided Visits and the vision of the Documents of the Florentine Ecumenical Council that have been organized in parallel, to increase the points of view on the topic and the substance of the artistic initiative.
