Giorni della nostra storia
Monographspreface by V. Foa
introductory essay by N. Labanca
In 1995, on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy, the Tuscan branches of Coop and Auser sponsored the unprecedented effort of gathering the eye-witness accounts of all those who had lived through those harrowing years. The hundreds of letters that arrived from every corner of this region form a picture which is at once tragic, suspenseful, ironic and picturesque.
They describe everything from daily life to military operations, from individuals’ experiences with the German Occupation Army and the Allies to their political convictions, which were at times detached and at others strongly influenced by the events of the day. Both Vittorio Foa’s Preface and historian Nicola Labanca’s Introduction guide us through this fascinating anthology in a balanced and dispassionate manner.
