Madonna Ersoch
Santa Maria del Fiore
Monographsedited by Alessandro Bicchi
Text by Cristina Acidini, Massimo Ersoch, Timothy Verdon, Giuseppe Betori
Santa Maria del Fiore is the name that Mgr Giuseppe Betori, archbishop of Florence, suggested for the splendid Madonna and Child in painted and gilded stucco, donated to the Florentine cathedral by Massimo Ersoch. According to Ersoch (who prefers to call himself a ‘searcher’ rather than a collector), the statue is by Filippo Brunelleschi, an attribution based on similarities with the master’s Madonna and Child, rediscovered recently at the bishop’s palace in Fiesole, as well as some of his other works.
