San Gervasio
Una chiesa un quartiere Per il restauro della “Moltiplicazione dei pani e dei pesci” di Santi di Tito
Monographsedited by Dodo Mugnaini
This lively and compelling volume originated with the idea to highlight the great panel by 16th century painter Santi di Tito, conserved in the historical Church of Santi Gervasio and Protasio in Florence. The painting is examined according to its location, framing the church that hosts it in its historical, civic and social fabric, and analyzing its role and relationship with Campo di Marte, a neighbourhood well-loved by its inhabitants.
This first part is followed by an essay, which in turn explores historical artistic aspects of the building, with special emphasis on interior furnishings and varied works that were gradually arranged over the course of centuries.
The last essay written by Crisina Acidini, superintendent of the Polo Museale of Florence, concentrates on the examination of Santi’s painting. Underlining its artistic qualities and framing them in connection with the artistic expression of the period, Acidini praises its value and urges readers to collaborate in achieving a primary objective: securing the precious painting of this great 16th-century Florentine artist.
