After graduating in 1978 with a thesis on Lorenzo Lippi, Chiara d’Afflitto joined the Directorate of the Civic Museum of Pistoia in 1982, transforming the city museum system into a state-of-the-art complex. A passionate artistic figure who played a leading role in Pistoia’s cultural life, she was highly respected internationally not only for her human qualities but also her meticulous critical approach. Introduced by a biographical profile and a bibliography of her writings, the volume includes readings from the conference held in Florence and Pistoia to commemorate her in November 2008, a year after her death, as well as numerous contributions that offer close-ups and new discoveries about 17th-century works as well as contemporary art, of which the scholar was an insightful and enthusiastic witness.
