Art Itineraries from the 13th to the 20th Century
Cataloguesexhibition curated by Carlo Sisi
Florence, Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, 1 October 2016–15 January 2017
catalogue edited by Emanuele Barletti
The institutional seat of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, situated in the historic heart of Florence, hosts its Art Collection and it is one of the best-known buildings of modern architecture in Italy. The commission to reorganise, in a rational way, the functional spaces was assigned to Giovanni Michelucci (1891–1990). The Collection is an exhibition of works of art connected to the cultural history of their own area and each ‘room’ recounts an episode in our figurative history, from old masters such as Giotto, Pacino di Bonaguida and Mariotto di Nardo, to the Renaissance artists such as Filippino Lippi, Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino and Giorgio Vasari, the Macchiaioli painters and naturalists, such as Giovanni Fattori, Odoardo Borrani and Eugenio Cecconi, the 20th century protagonists, such as Lorenzo Viani, Giovanni Colacicchi and Primo Conti, not to mention the extraordinary series of Views of Ancient Florence made between the 17th and 19th centuries, in a new and engaging narrative sequence, a ‘common environment’ of artistic excellence.
