Sant’Alberto di Colle
Studi e documenti

edited by Anna Benvenuti

The figure of St Albert of Chiatina is described in relation to the history of Colle di Val d’Elsa in the 12th century, exploring the establishment of the cult of the archpriest through studies and unpublished documents: two biographical accounts that are part of a 17th-century miscellany of the Episcopal Archives of Colle, a Life in verses composed in a “folk” style by Manzone Manzoni in the 16th century, and two interesting notarial deeds with which the discovery of frescoes devoted to the saint and the finding and translation of his body were consigned to public memory when the old collegiate church was demolished in 1619. Thus, the book reconstructs the iconographic legacy by evoking extant testimony alongside works that have been lost.
