The Pittas Collection
Early Italian Paintings (1200-1530)
Monographsby Stefano G. Casu
with a preface by Everett Fahy
The book presents a selection of 54 works from the Pittas collection, for an intense overview of Italian art between the 13th century and the 1530s. It is the first in-depth study of this private collection, about which no catalogue had ever been published until now. Although some of the paintings are mentioned in art literature, others have gone unpublished or are obscure outside specialized circles. The collection focuses on the Sienese and Florentine schools, with the rare Tressa Master and priceless panels by Taddeo and Agnolo Gaddi, Ugolino di Nerio and others. It includes exceptional works from the Venetian, Marchigian and Umbrian schools, with sacred subjects painted by artists such as the Master of Dotto Chapel, Jacobello del Fiore and the Master of Fossa. The book is introduced by Everett Fahy and an essay by the author, and it features critical entries with colour illustrations of the works and a complete bibliography.
